The driver of the Hyundai was charged over the incident, according to police.
The car’s last known owner, who didn’t want to be named because of the sensitive nature of the case, was not in custody until the final moments of the investigation conducted by the agency’s San Bernardino bureau.
Authorities did not specify whether anyone at the auto dealership was involved in the incident. The auto company reported that the vehicle was pulled over in a carjacker-style, at best, because of the unusual circumstances. If the vehicle is found in transit while the suspect was stopped, authorities would be “cooperative” or alert by talking to the person operating the car on the scene.
